Tyne & Wear Van Hire – Hirer Information

Here is some basic information that we would like to make our hirers aware of:

Economy Van HireOur Wallsend office opening hours are 8.30 – 4.30 Monday to Friday. Vehicles cannot be collected or returned outside of these hours as the facility is securely locked at 4.30.

The Economy Hire office is very accessible. We are a 2 minute drive from the Tyne tunnel and a 10 minute walk from Howdon Metro Station.

Hirers are asked to perform daily vehicle checks, including tyre pressure, oil and water levels, lights and indicator functioning. Any problems should be reported to Economy Hire immediately.

Hirers are responsible for all traffic violations. If you are hiring a van, please be aware of the lower national speed limit for vans as opposed to cars.

Please note – like most vehicle hire companies, we offer only third party cover, as insurance cover is so expensive. Also, we cannot offer higher cover for a higher fee.

  1. Can I collect my hire vehicle the day before?
    A. Yes you can, subject to the hire vehicle being available. An overnight charge will also apply.
  2. What ID will I need to bring?
    A. A credit or debit card can be used as one form. Another form of ID must be shown, with the same address as the driving licence. Also we require your photo driving licence and a DVLA Hirer code.
  3. What forms of payment do you accept?
    A. We only accept credit card (Visa or Master Card) or debit card (Visa Electron). We cannot accept American Express.
  4. If I hire a vehicle by the month can I get a better price?
    A. Yes you can. We offer very competitive hire rates for short term & long term vehicle hire.
  5. What if I need to cancel my reservation?
    A. You need to notify us at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled delivery time in order to avoid being charged up to one day’s vehicle hire.
  6. Do you allow additional drivers?
    A: Yes, additional drivers are allowed, at a supplementary charge. Additional drivers must meet the same age and driver license requirement and should be present at the time of rental.
  7. Can I check out the condition of the hire vehicle before I take it?
    A: Yes, you will be asked to inspect the hire vehicle with a member of staff and agree and sign for any existing damage before the hire vehicle is released for hire.
  8. What happens if I’m involved in a road traffic collision?
    A: Firstly, if you are injured, seek medical attention. Then please report the incident to us and we will deal with it.
  9. What should I do if my hire vehicle breaks down?
    A: If your hire vehicle breaks down there is an AA card with a telephone number and membership number on windscreen of each vehicle.
  10. What level of insurance cover do you offer?
    A: because of the high cost of insurance, we offer only third party cover.
  11. Is there an additional charge for fuel?
    A: The vehicle should be returned with the same level of fuel that it was supplied with.
  12. Do you offer half day hire, or only full day?
    A: We offer half day hire Monday – Thursday. Please see Fleet & Rates page for details.
